On The House: Custom Drinks & Recipes From The Pros At Jack Creek Grille

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…”
We’ve all heard this age old saying that has become so common at weddings over the years. For this edition of On The House I’ve embodied the four elements of this beautiful tradition into a tasty seasonal custom cocktail, and added a bit of a Montana twist. So belly up to the bar and pull out your pen, for the story of the Huckleberry Lemontini is about to begin!
- Something old: .5oz. Cointreau. Cointreau Distillery was set up in 1849 by Adolphe Cointreau and their secret family recipe has been passed down for generations.
- Something new: 1.5oz. 44 Degrees North Mountain Huckleberry Vodka and a dash of fresh squeezed lemon juice. 44 North is a relatively new player on the distillery scene with a unique style and offers exceptional vodkas that are produced and bottled at their source. Fresh lemons…well they’re just delicious and fresh.
- Something borrowed: 1oz. Absolute Citron. EVERYONE has used Absolute in their “tini” recipes over the years, and borrowed a page or two from their proverbial book, and for good reason.
- Something blue: 1/4 cup fresh wild Montana huckleberries. Huckleberries are native to the northwestern United States and Canada, growing from Wyoming, west to Alaska, Washington, and right here in Big Sky, Montana. They thrive in elevation, acidic mountain soils, and most importantly… they’re BLUE!
Take your wild huckleberries and puree them in your blender. Now just shake the liquors and lemon together, pour the huckleberry puree into the bottom of the glass, top it off with your concoction, and sprinkle the rim with a little raw sugar to seal the deal.
Now the rest of that saying, that is not quite as well known, is “and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” The sixpence is a coin and represented wealth and prosperity for the newlyweds. So raise your glass, have a drink or two, and cheers to… something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.
Cheers!
