Heather McPhie Brings Home the Gold at the U.S. Freestyle Championships
Heather McPhie’s Winning Runs At The 2012 Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships
from Moonlight Basin
Montana native and Moonlight Basin ambassador, Heather McPhie took first in ladies’ moguls at the U.S. Freestyle Championships last Friday at Stratton Mountain, beating out the top 37 women mogul skiers in the country to climb atop the podium she took third on last year.
Heather said after winning, ”Being U.S. Champion has definitely been on my bucket list for a while I’ve been really happy with my season. I’ve thrown my D-spin every single event which was my goal and to stay on the forefront of innovation. I was really excited to stick to my plan and commit to it. It means a lot that we push each other as a team and we continue to put up better and better results.”
Former gymnast Heather McPhie came late to moguls skiing but she’s been making up for lost time. In 2010 the Bozeman, Montana native found a new gear and accelerated to her first career World Cup podiums (four) including one win in her current hometown of Park City, Utah. After becoming a first-time Olympian (18th place) in Vancouver, Heather stayed consistent and ended the 2010 season ranked second in the overall World Cup standings (her previous best ranking was 13th in 2007). She backed up her breakout season in 2011 with seven more World Cup top-10s (including one podium) and again pulling in a pair of U.S. Championship podium finishes.
